LOCATION OF POSITION

Greenbrier State Park- Boonsboro, MD (Washington County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is currently accepting applications for two Seasonal Ranger Positions at Greenbrier State Park located in Washington County. Daily tasks include but are not limited to the following: general park and campground monitoring, providing information to visitors, advising the general public of park rules and regulations, opening/closing of areas and gates, picking up litter, vehicle and equipment upkeep, report writing, cleaning and maintaining public restrooms and other public buildings, use of communication radios, minor maintenance tasks, and other duties as assigned. Applicants must be able to lift 50lbs., hike trails of varying difficulty, and be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions. The shift hours for this position vary; examples of shift hours include 7:30 a.m.- 4:00 p.m. or 3:00 p.m. -11:30 p.m. Weekly hours will vary seasonally. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings, and holidays as scheduled.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: None.

Notes:

Applicants must have the ability to understand verbal and written instructions and adhere to all State and Federal laws, safety regulations, and must understand and adhere to all park policies.  Applicants must present a neat and clean appearance and wear issued uniform correctly.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong preference will be given to applicants that possess the following. Include clear and specific information on your application regarding the qualification(s).

Education or experience in the field of park operations, recreation, education, business administration, forestry, social sciences, or a natural resources related field is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record.

BENEFITS

Contractual employees who works for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program (the Program), have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week (or on average 130 hours per month) may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage for themselves and their dependents.  As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage, including any eligible dependents you have enrolled. The State of Maryland will subsidize the remaining 75% of the cost for these benefits. You can also elect to enroll in dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, but will be responsible to pay the full premium for these benefits.
