Introduction

The Maryland Department of Commerce is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Social and Digital Products Coordinator within the Division of Tourism, Film and the Arts.

Main Purpose of Job

The primary function of this position is to influence visits to the state by interacting and building relationships with potential visitors and Maryland fans and followers online via popular social platforms such as Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Pinterest, as well as blogs, podcasts, video sharing and other digital platforms.

POSITION DUTIES

This includes developing the day-to-day editorial content for multiple social media platforms; monitoring, measuring and analyzing the conversations taking place there; ongoing research of new initiatives and implementation of new channels; and coordinating content from other communications team members to be used in strategic messaging and branding, including maintaining an editorial content calendar.  In addition, the position enhances and helps facilitate the Division’s digital products and related enhancements including, but not limited to, internal digital development such as the VisitMaryland mobile site and interactive map, and Civil War Trails mobile app.  The position has responsibilities for both strategic advice, execution and evaluation for these initiatives and may be responsible for project and event management, communication (written, oral and presentations), design, development and production, particularly under tight and unexpected deadlines. The selected candidate will possess excellent written and verbal communications and project management skills. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in social media and its technology; online monitoring and measurement platforms including, but not limited to, Omniture, Facebook Insights, YouTube Insights, Google Analytics, HootSuite, TweetDeck, and Social Mention.  Experience with HTML and Adobe Creative Suite is essential.  Experience as a social media brand ambassador and demonstrated skills in photography and video.   Knowledge of web usability best practices, website navigation design and flow, content classification, and content management methods and systems is required.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field

Two years of experience in social and digital marketing

Demonstrated experience in social media and its technology

Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Google Mail or other relevant software

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
