Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide necessary woodworking and commercial carpentry work required for the maintenance of a facility. The position will perform all levels of carpentry at the Victor Cullen Center along with providing carpentry services to other facilities and field offices throughout the State as needed.

POSITION DUTIES

The Carpenter Trim position will perform all levels of carpentry.  The position will evaluate, initiate and construct a project from blueprints or from specifications and description.  The position will perform precision cutting, fitting and finishing for the repair of fine furniture, bookcases, benches and desks. The Carpenter Trim position will perform emergency repair and all types of renovations to existing buildings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: Five years of experience in carpentry, two years of which must have been in finish or trim carpentry work or in cabinetmaking.

Notes:

1. Applicants may substitute additional carpentry experience at a rate of one year of experience for two years of the required education for up to four years of the required education.

2. Graduation from an accredited vocational or technical high school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for three years of the required general carpentry experience.

3. Graduation from a vocational or technical trade school with a concentration in carpentry may be substituted for up to three years of the required general carpentry experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Proficient experience in commercial carpentry is highly desired.

For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. This list will be used by the DJS hiring agency to select employees.  Please note that your answers on the Supplemental Questionnaire must correspond to the information provided on your application to receive credit.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
