Main Purpose of Job

The primary purpose of this job is to conduct conciliation conferences, negotiate settlements and produce consent orders for submission and approval of the court. Individuals in this position meet with custodial and non-custodial parents to resolve child support and medical support issues. Individuals in this position are responsible for filing all court related documents with the Court via Maryland Electronic Courts (MDEC).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: One year of experience in the administration of a human services program or experience conducting studies and analyses of programs, procedures, practices and organizations.

Notes:

1. Additional professional or technical experience in the administration of a human services program or experience conducting studies and analyses of programs, procedures, practices and organizations may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute education at the graduate level at an accredited college or university in a human services related field at the rate of 30 semester hours per year for the required experience.
                                                                                                                                                                   3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Administrative Officer classifications or Administrative Officer specialty codes in the General, Administrative, Clerical, and Office Services field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

1. Work experience negotiating settlements.

2. Absent Parent Location.

3. Collections as utilized in a child support enforcement program.

4. Knowledge of Title IV-D and amendments thereto of the Social Security Law and Maryland laws and regulations regarding child support and paternity.

5. Ability and experience to testify in court.

6. Ability to communicate the facts of cases to attorneys and judges.

7. Ability and/or working knowledge of preparing statistical tables and charts.

8. At least one year of experience in a child support program.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Limited to candidates willing to accept employment in Anne Arundel County.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
