Main Purpose of Job

Vacancy #1:

This position provides office managerial support to the Bureau Director, the Bureau Deputy Director, and the Housing and Food Protection Services Program Manager for Environmental Health consisting of 72 employees including 2 Program Managers, Environmental Sanitarian Supervisors, Environmental Health Specialists, and administrative, secretarial and clerical staff with an annual operating budget of $5.6 million and an annual capital budget of $3.3 million. This position supports the Bureau Director, Deputy Director and Housing and Food Protection Services Program Manager by directly supervising an Office Supervisor and indirectly supervising secretarial support staff for the Housing and Food Protection Services program, which involves the licensing, inspection, and enforcement of food service facilities, bathing beaches, multiple dwellings, camps, pet stores, property maintenance and nuisance complaints, and after-hour services in fulfilling the mission of the Department of Health which is to preserve, protect and promote the health of the citizens of Anne Arundel County.

Vacancy #2:

This position provides office managerial support to the Sanitary Engineering Program Manager for the Environmental Health Division consisting of 27 employees including a program manager, program supervisors, registered environmental health specialists, public health engineer, geographic information system specialist, and secretarial staff. This position supports the Sanitary Engineering Program Manager by supervising the Office Supervisor and indirectly supervising secretarial support for the Sanitary Engineering program involving the inspection, testing, licensing, design, construction, maintenance, and enforcement of private water supply, sewage disposal systems and liquid waste haulers including well construction, groundwater remedial investigations, community-wide sanitary surveys, water and sewer master planning, data collection, and data management in fulfilling the mission of the Health Department which is to preserve, protect and promote the health of the citizens of Anne Arundel County.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience supervising lower-level clerical employees.

Notes:

1. Additional experience performing clerical duties may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Applicants may substitute education from an accredited college or university at the rate of thirty semester credit hours for one year of experience on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the administrative support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.  

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience supervising customer service/front desk staff.
