Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of this position is to provide support of a clerical nature to the Family Services Program.

POSITION DUTIES

This position independently performs various general clerical duties, which includes telecommunication operator, stockroom clerk,receptionist and mail handler.

Processes incoming and outgoing mail from both inter-departmental and US Postal Office.Distributes mail to mailboxes of Family Services staff and redirect/re-route any mail sent in error to the proper addressee.

Looks up unknown mail/faxes in the MD Chessie system of client and forward to assigned case manager. Maintains updated mail boxes of all staff persons entering this service and existing the service.

Retrieves incoming faxes from several location associate pages and distribute faxes to mailboxes of addressees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Please describe in detail any job duties relating to the minimum qualifications stated and include any computer software experience (Ex. Word, Excel, Access, etc.) used in each of the positions you held. 

Education: Completion of the eighth grade.

Experience: One year of experience typing correspondence, reports, charts or other documents from rough draft, corrected copy or oral instruction on a keyboard of a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor. (IMPORTANT: Please clearly show all job duties involving typing in your application.)

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience typing or performing other clerical duties on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate for six months of the required experience.

 3. Candidates may substitute five courses or six months of clerical training in subjects such as keyboarding, clerical math, word processing, spreadsheets, data base, graphics presentation, proofreading, or office etiquette for six months of the required experience.

4. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Administration classifications or in Administrative, Clerical, or Office Services specialty codes in the clerical support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess one year of experience working in a private or governmental MAIL ROOM . (Experience must be performed within a business or agency's dedicated mail room to qualify.)

(IMPORTANT: You must have this experience to be approved for this recruitment. There are no substitutions available for this required experience.)

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
