Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to maintain print management and complete all assigned production jobs on a daily basis.

This position will initiate and monitor the batching process and print production of requested print jobs, overnight prints and ad hoc prints jobs received through the computer systems, within the WCC Print Center.

This position will also verify the completion and correctness of each job produced and maintains records of job productions.

The Computer Operator will provide first level support to users by responding to calls regarding problems with print jobs or Print Center system problems and follows procedures to restore system access or notifies programmers, technical support staff and users of system problems.

This position will act as a liaison and place service calls to vendors and maintain printers by diagnosing and repairing assigned equipment via technical instruction or cleaning, adjusting and making minor repairs.

This position responds to requests to convert Microfilm documents into Filenet document images, which will include media handling, scanning and redaction of secured data.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Complete all assigned production jobs. This may include initiating batch processes and printing forms that are mailed out on a daily basis, such as claim forms, hearing notices, appeals, transcripts, letters and other official agency documents. Print management and other ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Respond to requests to convert Microfilm document images to FileNet document images including media handling, scanning, and redaction of secured data.
  • Monitor, schedule and ensure completion of  third party maintenance on the assigned printing, scanning, postal, and other related equipment; Act as a liaison between third party vendor and the Agency.
  • Provide first level Help Desk support for users by diagnosing and repairing assigned equipment and software problems, setting up assigned equipment and answering users’ questions; Monitor all assigned systems and processes to ensure high availability; Perform and verify success of corrective actions in the event of software or equipment failures; Escalate serious problems to supervisor and IT staff as directed and on a timely basis.
  • Maintain technical and operational skills at a high level for all assigned systems and processes; Learn and integrate new technical and operational skills as required to support new systems adopted by the Agency.
  • Perform production reporting duties such as recording input and output records management.
  • Proactively notify affected user groups about planned outages that will impact them; Provide timely notification to affected user groups of unplanned system outages and restoration of services.
  • Document and maintain current all operating procedures for both disaster recovery scenarios and recurring daily work tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Two years of experience operating multipurpose, multi-tasking computer systems.

Notes:

1. Experience operating computer equipment for the purpose of data entry, word processing or maintaining information may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Fifteen credit hours in computer operation at an accredited college or university may be substituted for one year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Computer System Operations classifications or Computer System Operations specialty codes in the Information Technology field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate will have at least one year of experience working with the Print Center, the WCC AS400 and Filenet systems, Micro-film Scanner and be knowledgeable of Mail Room equipment and processes and the Scanning & Indexing procedures and functions.
