Main Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for the preparation of legal documents and correspondence pertaining to the establishment and enforcement of paternity and support. Individuals in this position also provide secretarial support to the Administration and agency, in addition to legal support to four attorneys. The high volume of secretarial work includes electronic filing with the court, creation of special and confidential assignments, routine correspondence, and database applications. In addition, persons in this position may assist with agency-wide projects such as closed files, genetic testing, and appointment scheduling.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Please describe in detail any job duties relating to the minimum qualifications stated below and include any computer software experience (Excel, CHESSIE, PowerPoint, Word etc.) used in the each of the positions you held.

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: One year of experience as a legal secretary to include keyboarding legal briefs, pleadings, affidavits, subpoenas and other legal documents; maintaining case files, schedules and logs and verifying legal citations and references.

Note: 

1. Additional secretarial or other clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in Legalman classifications or Paralegal specialty codes in the administrative support field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Strong Computer Skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Access and Excel).
Ability to Type High Volume of Pleadings, Legal Documents and Correspondence for Four Attorneys.
Experience Taking Minutes of Meetings.
Electronic Court Filing / System Experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to keyboard at a minimum speed of forty words per minute.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
