Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to interact with recipients, prescribers and providers enrolled under the Maryland Medical Assistance and Maryland Pharmacy Programs for the rendering of pharmacy clinical and/or service prior-authorizations. This position will review manual pharmacy compound and IV compound claims for proper billing of units and reimbursement. Incumbent will assist with phone inquiries from recipients, prescribers and pharmacy providers regarding drug coverage and pharmacy claim rejections; and will assure that providers comply with state and federal policies and regulations in regards to the billing of pharmacy services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD).

Experience: One year of clinical pharmacy experience as a Registered Pharmacist.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute four additional years of clinical experience as a Registered Pharmacist for the required education.

 2. Experience gained during a formal residency program may be applied to the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Pharmacist classifications or Pharmacist specialty codes in the Pharmacist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.  License or license number must accompany application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
