Main Purpose of Job

The position reviews pharmacy services (i.e., drug use management, retrospect claim reviews, formulary review, access issues, provider compliance issues, member issues, authorization for pharmacy services, etc.) provided to MD Medical Assistance recipients through fee-for-service, managed care, long term care or other service delivery models. The position recommends the development of clinical criteria of medications; completes monthly compliance audits claims; and resolves audits issues regarding fraud, inappropriate billing and post payment claims. Other duties include organizing and presenting continuing education programs; assisting in the procurement process as member of the Contract Fulfillment Team and reviewing potential bidder questions and technical and financial proposals; and participating in meetings and on committees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Graduation from an accredited School of Pharmacy with a doctorate in Pharmacy (PharmD).

Experience:  One year of clinical pharmacy experience as a Registered Pharmacist.

NOTES:

1.  Candidates may substitute four additional years of clinical experience as a Registered Pharmacist for the required education.

2.  Experience gained during a formal residency program may be applied to the required experience.

3.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Pharmacist classifications or Pharmacist specialty codes in the Pharmacist field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with Speciality Drugs, IV Drug Therapy and development and review of clinical criteria is highly preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Pharmacist from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy, 4201 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1.  Employees in this classification are subject to call-in and, therefore, will be required to provide the facility with a phone number at which they can be reached.

2.  Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.
