This position serves as the Food Processing Standardization Officer in the Office of Food Protection, Prevention and Health Promotion Administration. The Food Processing Program Standardization Officer (FPSO) is responsible for ensuring that all new CFP staff are trained according to current regulatory standards and in conformance with the FDA Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards. The FPSO also assists with the development, and ensures the uniform interpretation and enforcement of State and federal laws, regulations, cooperative agreements, MOUs, Office policies and standard operating procedures in order to promote public health and facilitate the free flow of food products into interstate commerce. This is accomplished through audit, standardization, surveillance, study, training and guidance that involves coordination and interaction between federal and state agencies, Food Protection Program staff, Local Health Department staff, academia, and industry. The FPSO may be responsible for the routine inspection duties in an area of the State, and also may be expected to supervise other professional staff in the future.

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Environmental Sanitarians under the certificate of eligibility requirements for Environmental Sanitarians.

Experience: Four years of environmental health work experience in the promotion, control, and maintenance of environmental health, two years of which must have involved direction of an environmental control project and/or the supervision of positions performing environmental health work.

Note: 

1. Applicants may substitute a master’s degree in public health or environmental health sciences for one year of the required general experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Environmental Engineering classifications or Environmental Engineering specialty codes in the Engineering and Science field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

The preferred candidate will have training in food facility inspections.

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Environmental Sanitarian from the Maryland State Board of Environmental Sanitarians. A copy of your current license must be attached to the application.

2. The licensure requirements are pursuant to State Environmental Article, Title 11, COMAR 26.07.01 through 26.07.04. The Secretary of the Department of Budget and Management cannot accept any substitutions.
