Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide skilled beauty care to patients of the Spring Grove Hospital Center (SGHC), a psychiatric hospital. This position will provide services which include, but are not limited to: permanent cold waves, hair cuts, scalp treatments, therma press and curl, tints, rinses, blow dry styles, wet set styles, and permanent relaxers. This position will also be responsible for the shop and equipment maintenance as well as sanitation. This position receives general supervision and does not supervise.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must possess a current Operator's license as issued by the Maryland State Board of Cosmetologists. Applicants must present evidence of current certification with the application.

2. Certification by the above board will be required before an application may be given permanent status in a Merit System position. However, applicants who are eligible for certification will be admitted to the Maryland Merit System examination if evidence of eligibility is presented with the application.

3. Applicants must maintain licensure with the Maryland State Board of Cosmetologists. Individuals who do not currently possess the necessary Operator's license will be subject to removal from the position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Some positions in this classification are assigned duties which will require the individual to be examined by a physician. After an offer of employment, applicants for such positions will be given a medical examination to certify the ability to perform the essential job functions.

Applicants certified to list will receive eligibility for a period of one (1) year. Eligibility may be extended beyond one (1) year period.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
