Main Purpose of Job

To supervise the day to day operation of a shift / unit, comprised of Pretrial Release Investigators, in the performance of their duties and in accordance with Policy and Procedure by providing direction, guidance and technical advice; establishing schedules, daily work assignments, and priorities; ensuring all work assignments are completed; monitoring attendance, approving leave and signing timecards; providing ongoing training; auditing and evaluating work; counseling and recommending discipline; compiling and maintaining statistics; and acting as Duty Supervisor.

POSITION DUTIES

  • Provides direction, guidance and technical advice to Investigative staff in performance of their duties.
  • Establishes schedules, daily work assignments, and priorities for staff.
  • Ensures that all designated work assignments are completed and comply with Agency Interview and Investigation standards.
  • Complies and maintains daily and monthly statistical data on shift performance.
  • Monitors attendance, approves leave, and signs timecards.
  • Provides ongoing training to staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a state high school equivalence certificate.

Experience: Three years of investigative experience in law enforcement, court services, parole and probation, or pretrial release work.

Note:

1.  Additional investigative experience in law enforcement, court services, parole and probation, or pretrial release work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2.  Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service as a non-commissioned officer in special investigations classifications or specialist codes in the criminal justice field of work at the rate of two years of military experience for one year of experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supervising or overseeing the work of other staff handling criminal case management records
  • Experience in pre-trail  investigations

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this class may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification will be assigned to one of three shifts in order to maintain 24 hour coverage and may be required to work on weekends and holidays.
