Main Purpose of Job

To plan and direct the library services and programs for staff and offenders at Baltimore City Detention Center, Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center, and the Women Detention Center.

POSITION DUTIES

Provide library services to all residents onsite. Assist students with research projects, recommends appropriate instructional and educational reading, and explains cataloging and reference procedures. When appropriate, provide outreach services to housing units each week or upon request. Provide book cart services to the satellite locations: Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center, Baltimore City Detention Center, Women's Detention Center, and Jail Industries Building. Review and process legal research request from detainees/offenders through the LASI Program (Library Assistance to State Institutions) and LexisNexis (as deem necessary). Cooperates with inter disciplinary staff in planning, implementing, and monitoring comprehensive rehabilitation programs. Facilitates and maintains a library classroom environment conducive to learning. Develops and maintains collections of print and non-print materials which meet the needs of the inmates/offenders. Other related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of appropriate educational credentials as determined by the Maryland State Board of Education. Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) issued when appropriate educational credentials have been determined by the Maryland State Board of Education.
