Introduction

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to serve as the IEP Coordinator, acting as the campus' sole liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education regarding IEPs. This position also provides assistance and content training to the administrators, teachers, staff, and specialists (SLP, OT, PT, etc.) in the area of compliance with state and federal laws affecting IEPs.

POSITION DUTIES

Assist with and/or run IEP meetings; act as a campus liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education regarding IEPs; provide assistance and content training to the administrators, teachers, staff and specialists (SLP, OT, PT) in the areas of requirements, deadlines, accommodations and changes related to IEPs and/or the online IEP system; work closely with MSD’s IEP Coordinators, the Data and Assessment Team, Related Service Providers, Assistant Principals and Campus Principals) to ensure IEPs meet the needs of the individual students, meet all compliance requirements and to ensure consistency across campuses; attend specific MSDE meetings related to IEPs; and assume other responsibilities as designated by the Director of Student Achievement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in Education of Deaf students, Education of Deaf students with additional disabilities or Special Education required.

Three years of successful classroom teaching experience with Deaf and Hard of Hearing students required.

Must be fluent in American Sign Language and written English and possess knowledge of all ages and levels of students including students with multiple disabilities and cognitive disabilities.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree in special education or Deaf Education.

Minimum of three years of experience in all aspects of the special education IEP Team process preferred.

Knowledge of the Maryland Online IEP System is preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

New hires are subject to a criminal background investigation at their own expense.  (Maryland Code, Family Law Article 1, Sections 5-560-568.)
