Introduction

Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum (JPPM) is a division of the Maryland Historical Trust, located within the Maryland Department of Planning (MDP).  JPPM is a state museum of archaeology and history located in Calvert County, Maryland.  Each year, JPPM hosts thousands of visitors to showcase the historic buildings and park grounds located on-site through educational programs, guided tours and local events.  JPPM is a place where community and history come together in fascinating detail and was donated to the State of Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The position serves as Assistant Director and chief of operations at Jefferson Patterson Park and Museum. As a member of the JPPM Senior Staff, the Assistant Director fulfills a key leadership role in cooperation with the Executive Director and other members of the Senior Staff. He or she serves as a principal advisor to the Executive Director in developing and administering all aspects of JPPM operations and programs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Five years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.  One year of this experience must have involved one or more of the following:  the supervision of other employees, overseeing and coordinating the general operations of a unit, applying rules and regulations, or exercising responsibility for the development of policies or procedures.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience. 

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating  unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High preference will be given to candidates with a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in historic preservation, museum studies, public history, anthropology, archaeology, business or public administration, or a related field; and, five or more years of progressive management experience.

Candidate must have strong supervisory skills; an energetic and innovative mindset; demonstrated experience in staff and budget management; excellent organizational, interpersonal, public speaking and writing skills; and a strong interest in working collaboratively. Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, financial management, e-mail, and Internet required.

 

 

 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be require to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
