Work that matters.  The Maryland Department of Housing & Community Development  is a national leader in financing affordable housing and community development lending.  The Department  is looking for a Director of Loan and Mortgage Insurance Accounting to direct three managers preparing audited generally accepted accounting principles financial statements, disclosures, and the capital budget.  Our team needs members that will challenge the status quo, effectively communicate ideas and issues, and independently bring forth practical and efficient solutions and improvements.  Preference will be given to candidates with a CPA, strong Excel and accounting system skills, and experience in financial statement preparation or accounting for mortgages.

LOCATION OF POSITION

DHCD's Headquarters Office is located in Prince George's County at the New Carrollton Metro stop.

POSITION DUTIES

Department of Housing and Community Development is looking for a Director of Loan and Mortgage Insurance Accounting to direct three managers preparing audited generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) financial statements, disclosures, and the capital budget. This position directs 3 managers and is responsible for ensuring deadlines are met (quarterly generally accepted accounting principles financial statements and the management discussion and analysis' internal controls are enhanced and data is accurate for the Maryland Housing Fund which provides mortgage insurance, the State Funded loan programs which finances single family, multi-family and small business loans and State Servicing of multi-family and small business loans.  This position will be presenting financial data to large groups of people, implementing policies and enhancing the automation of financial data. Successful candidate will have strong leadership skills, ability to create financial statements and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:     Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting or a related field.  

Experience:    Five years of experience with financial statement preparation and supervising.  

Note:               Additional experience as described above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • CPA Certification or qualified to sit for the CPA examination
  • One year of experience in governmental accounting
  • Proficiency in MS Excel financial functions
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills
  • Ability to work independently in achieving deadlines
