Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as the Assistant Director for Family, Adult and Children's Division responsible for administrative work, directing and coordinating multiple programs within the division for Charles County DSS. This position provides direction and leadership to Child Protective Services, In-Home Services, Foster Care Services, Adoption Services and Adult Services. 

POSITION DUTIES

  • Directs the daily, short-term activities of the Family, Adult and Children Services Division, using multiple methods and tools, including meetings, training, policy development, programmatic data reports, national best practices.
  • Develops and uses teams within the Division and between Divisions to improve services for customers.
  • Plans, organizes and supervises the work of assigned subordinate personnel.
  • Reviews and assists in the development of departmental policies and programs.
  • Uses performance measures to help the Division assess the quantity and quality of its work and to make personnel assignments based on over all program needs.
  • Makes recommendations to the Director of the department concerning new or revised policy, procedures, and programs affecting the department and its clients.
  • Supervises the preparation of the budget for the assigned programs.
  • Develops outcome-based contracts with other governmental agencies or private groups  

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:   Possession of a master's degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work or a human service related field such as human services, sociology, psychology, counseling, public mental health, child development/family relations.

EXPERIENCE:   Eight years of experience in administrative, professional or technical work with 4 years of child welfare, adult services or human services experience.  Three years of which must have involved direct supervision of other employees or exercising responsibility for program development.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

All applicants that possess a Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) must be licensed as LCSW or LCSW-C in the State of Maryland.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Candidates must be willing to accept employment in Charles County, which is located in Southern Maryland.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.   Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
