Introduction

The Maryland State Archives is recruiting for Summer Internship candidates.  Any High school, undergraduate or graduate level college students attending Maryland schools or Maryland residents attending out-of-state schools are eligible to apply.  It is not necessary to be a history major to participate in the program, and students of other disciplines are encouraged to apply.

As the historical agency for Maryland, the State Archives is the central depository for government records of permanent value.  Records date from the founding of the Maryland Colony in 1634 to the present day.  The State Archives identifies, appraises, acquires, describes, preserves, and makes physically and electronically available (in a secure and dynamic environment) the permanent records of Maryland’s past, while providing reliable current information to citizens and public officials for the better administration of Maryland government and understanding of Maryland history.  The Archives describes Maryland state, county, and municipal government agencies, and their origin, functions, structure, personnel, historical evolution, reports, and other aspects of Maryland and its history; and encourages the study of Maryland government and history.  The agency also serves as the custodian of the state's fine art collections.

GRADE

Student Interns will receive an hourly wage, paid bi-weekly. Hourly rates are based on education level and range from $9.34 to $12.07 per hour.

Main Purpose of Job

Interns will engage in a variety of activities related to the designing, developing, testing, implementing and maintaining applications and websites.  Application development at the Archives is centered around object oriented, database driven desktop and web applications.

POSITION DUTIES

Interns are expected to work 28 hours per week, starting on Wednesday, May 20th through Friday, August 14th.

Intern will:

  •  Assist in the creation and maintenance of in-house applications
  •  Complete a mid-program internship survey
  • Attend a mid-program evaluation meeting
  • Complete and turn in a final project report
  • Complete and turn in a final program evaluation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

In order to be considered for an internship, you must:

Be a current student or recent graduate (within the last year) of undergraduate studies or graduate studies

AND

Be a current resident of the state of Maryland or an enrolled student in a Maryland school.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

The following must be submitted prior to the closing deadline in order to be considered for the internship.  If submissions are missing, the application will be removed from consideration.  Late submissions will not be accepted.

 ·         Resume

 ·         Academic transcripts, both undergraduate and graduate, if applicable.

 ·         Be available for a telephone interview if requested

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Coursework relevant to Information Technology Majors is preferred, but is not required for consideration.  Please list all coursework relevant to Information Technology Majors, including but not limited to: Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Game Design, Web and Application development in the application section titled “Specialized Training or Classes Relevant to the Job”  
  • Knowledge of VB.NET, ASP.NET, Javascript, HTML, and/or MS SQL Server is preferred. Any additional programming experience in other languages is also a plus.  Please list any and all experience with these in terms of credits earned or project hours worked in the application section titled “Specialized Training or Classes Relevant to the Job”.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applicants must be available for an interview, if requested.

Candidates can expect to be notified of their disposition no later than April 30, 2015.
