Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position in the field of vocational rehabilitation providing leadership and technical assistance in the planning and implementation of programs and services for individuals who are Deaf/Hard of Hearing (D/HOH).

POSITION DUTIES

Provide leadership and direct, specialized technical assistance in the planning and implementation of programs for individuals who are D/HOH. Provide coordination and implementation of services within WTC and throughout the state, in cooperation with staff serving consumers who are D/HOH. Provide support to D/HOH individuals participating in WTC Career and Technology Training, Customized/Partnership Training and Employment Services activities. Serve as liaison for WTC with interpreting agencies. Develop and implement supplemental programming to address the specialized needs of this population, working in cooperation with Agency Business Specialists, businesses, Center/Field staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:   Bachelor’s Degree is required. A Master’s Degree is preferred.  

Experience:   Three years of professional experience in administration, teaching or rehabilitation work in education or rehabilitation programs for individuals who are D/HOH. Experience in supervising programs and services for individuals who are D/HOH is preferred.  

 Note:  Proficiency in American Sign Language and knowledge of Deaf Culture is required.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of rehabilitation services for the D/HOH, including accommodations and strategies related to the training and employment of persons with disabilities; knowledge of community resources and support services available for this population; knowledge of American Sign Language, Deaf Culture, and the specialized needs of Hard of Hearing and Deaf individuals; knowledge of leadership skills, supervision and team building. Ability to work as part of a staff team related to the statewide expansion, management, planning and delivery of services for individuals who are D/HOH; ability to lead an interdisciplinary team in the provision and implementation of programs and direct services to D/HOH individuals; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with and serve as a liaison to contracted interpreters, interpreting agencies and staff; ability to recommend and develop transition plans and communication strategies for consumers transitioning from one WTC service to another, and/or WTC to the community; ability to supervise staff and exercise initiative and sound judgment in making decisions.
