Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position for the Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH) responsible for administering and providing library services and comprehensive information resource network for individuals with disabilities.

POSITION DUTIES

Provides public service at the reference and public services desk; uses subject expertise and online search skills to provide in depth reference assistance; provides information and referral service and reader advisory services for all individuals eligible for LBPH services; coordinates and supervises LBPH outreach activities; provides presentations, tours and promotion of library services; coordinates newsletter and other promotional activities; manages and coordinates NFB Newsline outreach activities; oversees all aspects for the Reference/Public Services area; manages and coordinates community information in including, Online Information and Referral database and disability awareness information; supervises and schedules reference desk/virtual reference coverage and participates in local, state, and national organizations serving the information needs of individuals eligible for LBPH services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Library Information Science or Library Media from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.  

EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional library experience is required; supervisory experience serving individuals with disabilities and/or managing library projects is preferred.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of library services for individuals with disabilities; knowledge of online systems, databases and other automated equipment used in a library environment; skill in locating and communicating appropriate reference materials; skill in planning, organizing, and completing presentations; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse clientele and staff; ability to work as a team member and to exercise good judgment and tact; ability to communicate effectively.
