Maryland State Department of Education is recruiting for an Educational Coordinator I; located in the Division of Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped (LBPH). Main Purpose of Job

This is a professional position responsible for assisting the Branch in the planning, organization, supervision, development and administration of all library services, personnel, operation and programs. The Assistant Branch Chief is responsible for the management of the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, LBPH, in the absence of the Branch Chief. This position is responsible for the planning, implementation, and direction of the Statewide Assistive Technology and Information Program which includes adaptive technology training and classes, outreach and partnerships, and consultant services. As Assistant Brach Chief, the individual in this position is responsible for program procedures, goals and objectives; determining organizational structure and staffing needs of the program; providing oversight and management of program personnel and budget; developing short and long-range plans for the program operations and resources; planning and supervising the work of the assigned staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a master's degree or at least 36 hours of equivalent post-baccalaureate course work. Degree from an American Library Association ALA accredited program is preferred.

Experience: Three years administering education or library programs.

Notes:

1. Two additional years of experience may be substituted for the master's degree or 36 hours of equivalent post-baccalaureate course work.

2. The above requirements are set by the Maryland State Department of Education in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge developing, and implementing plans, policies, goals and objectives for technical services in a branch library

Knowledge of National Library Service federal standards and guidelines for Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped

Skill in using technology programs for library operations and training

Knowledge of Assistive Technology such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, and audio players

Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, using correct grammar, spelling, and language conventions, in all written documents and correspomdence and in all verbal communications
