Main Purpose of Job

This position functions as a Board-Certified physician in the area of internal medicine, preventative medicine or other medical specialty with relevance to long term care and long term services; supports, and serves as an expert witness in appeal hearings requested by Medicaid recipients denied medical eligibility for long term care and long term services and supports. The position will provide clinical and administrative supervision to the program's Utilization Control Agent (UCA), and provide medical consultation and policy recommendations to medical, administrative, and supervisory staff of the Long Term Services and Supports Administration (LTSSA).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a degree in medicine from an accredited college or university.

Experience: As required for certification in an area of medical specialization by an American Medical Association Specialty Board.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Medical Corpsman and Physicians classifications or Nursing or Physician and Medical Services and Special Corpsman Officer specialty codes in the medicine field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate will have Board Certification in one or more Long Term Care related disciplines, have knowledge of and experience in utilization review, and have experience as an expert witness in administrative hearings.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Applicants must be certified by an American Medical Association Specialty Board in an area of medical specialization.  A copy of the certification must accompany application.

2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law. A copy of the current license must be attached to the application.   A copy of the license must accompany application.

Applicants who meet the minimum qualifications will be evaluated.  The evaluation may be a rating of your application based on your education, training and experience as they relate to the requirements of the position.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide complete and accurate information on your application.  Please report all related education, experience, dates and hours of work.  For education obtained outside the U.S., a copy of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service must accompany the application.  All information concerning your qualifications must be submitted by the closing date.  We will not consider information submitted after this date.  Applicants certified to list will receive eligibility for a period of one (1) year.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
