POSITION DUTIES

The incumbent of this position will direct and coordinate the activities of the Mainframe Database Administration Section of the Annapolis Data Center's Technical Services Unit.  This includes the complete oversight and technical responsibility for designing, developing, implementing and controlling mainframe database systems and all related software for the Annapolis Data Center.  This position requires daily contact with individual team leaders and the Technical Services Director and Managers to discuss schedules, project status, and problems.  Other duties include; communicating with various Vendors to discuss issues and upgrades to their hardware or software as needed. In addition, the incumbent will be required to interact with management of other State Agency customers to coordinate ADC activities and resolve outstanding issues.

Please Note: This position may be subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where the employee can be reached or will be furnished with a pager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Information Technology, Management Information Systems or other technology related field to include coursework in machine or assembler computer languages and operating system and data communication technology for large mainframe computers. 

Experience:  Two years experience as a Data Base Administrator and installing data base system software in a multipurpose, multi-tasking, large mainframe computer environment. At least one year of experience in managing or supervising in a multipurpose, multi-tasking, large mainframe computer environment.

NOTES:

  1. One additional year of related experience as defined above may be substituted for the required education.
  2. Thirty credit hours from an accredited college or university in Computer Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems or other information technology-related field to include coursework in machine or assembler computer languages and data base systems for multipurpose, multi-tasking computers, may be substituted for the required education.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Two years experience with DB2 software in a multipurpose, multi-tasking, large mainframe computer environment

EXAMINATION PROCESS

Qualifying applicants are subject to an oral interview. Prior to appointment, the selected candidate must successfully undergo a comprehensive background investigation including a review of criminal, MVA and tax records; and determination of legal authorization to work in the United States or under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986.
