Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of the Occupational Therapist Supervisor is to personally provide and direct the full range of essential Occupational Therapy services to and on behalf of Individuals with developmental disabilities.  This position must ensure that all professional and ancillary services are provided in full conformance with applicable laws/regulations/policies/protocols, and Accreditation Council standards.  This position must ensure requisite services are fully integrated with overall programmatic/medical goals for designated Individuals to maximize holistic approach consistent with Individual's needs and clinical, functional, and personal goals.

 Individuals working with profoundly and severely developmentally disabled present certain unique challenges and difficulties in and of itself. Traditional or usual approaches may not work as individuals lack the requisite capacity to co-direct or actively participate in the regimen. Accordingly, the incumbent must necessarily modify or adapt auxiliary/remedial/assessment measures commensurate with individual's needs and functional abilities or limitations. This is especially true when working with those who are not only developmentally disabled but also have one or more concomitant disabilities such as: physical (blindness, deafness, motoric difficulties, muscular disorders, etc.); mental (neurological deficits, depression, anxiety, psychosis, etc.); and/or maladaptive behavioral disorders.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice under the licensing requirements for Occupational Therapists.

Experience: Four years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.

Note:

1. Candidates may substitute a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Occupational Therapy for two years of the required experience.

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Therapy classifications or Therapy specialty codes in the Occupation Therapy field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience. 

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as an Occupational Therapist from the Maryland State Board of Occupational Therapy Practice, Spring Grove Hospital Center, 55 Wade Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21228.  A copy of license MUST accompany application.

2. Employees in this classification may be required to successfully complete and maintain current certification of cardiopulmonary resuscitation training.

3. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
