Main Purpose of Job

The Contractual Dental Assistant Trainee is the entry level of work assisting dentists in the dental care of clients in community health programs, inpatient or residential facilities. The main purpose of this position is to provide dental assistance support to the department's oral health clinical and health promotional services a per program guidelines and agency policies and within the State of Maryland dental assistant certifications, scope of practice, and oral Health Department standards of care and practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:    Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalence certificate.

Experience:  None.

NOTE:

Applicants may substitute experience as a dental assistant for the required education on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1.  Candidates for positions in this classification may be required to place and expose radiographs and be listed as a dental assistant qualified to place and expose radiographs within one year of appointment on the roster of the Maryland Board of Dental Examiners.

2.  Persons appointed to positions in this classification may be required to successfully complete training and maintain a current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
