Main Purpose of Job

A Building Security Officer II is the full performance level of work responsible for protecting the safety and security of persons, equipment, and facilities on State grounds.  Employees in this classification do not have supervisory responsibility.  Employees receive general supervision from a Police Officer or other designated supervisor.  Employees may be required to work a rotating shift and are subject to call in duty.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Ability to read and write.

Experience: Two years of experience in building security work.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer in master-at-arms classifications or law enforcement specialty codes in the site security field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of an automobile.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Employees in this classification are subject to call 24 hours a day and, therefore, will be required to acquire telephone service at their place of residence.

2. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 06.01.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
