Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide statistical analysis, data and research pertaining to disease and disease prevention within Howard County. Duties range from establishing procedures for the ongoing and systemic evaluation of disease programs and interventions to the analysis of patterns and trends of disease. Duties also include assisting the Health Officer and Deputy, Health Policy Analyst, and other programs within the department to design and use tools for epidemiological investigations and creating reports. This position also oversees the monthly HealthStat data collection, analysis and meeting.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Master’s degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.  A copy of your graduate transcripts (official or unofficial) should accompany your application.

Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist subsequent to receipt of the Master’s degree.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
