Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking to fill a Deputy Director, position within the Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC).  The incumbent in this position serves as the second ranking senior administrator of a multi-million dollar public health center that includes programs and projects addressing chronic disease prevention and control. The CCDPC sets direction for environment and systems changes in Maryland communities to prevent and manage chronic diseases. The Deputy Director provides day-to-day operational direction to develop, implement and evaluate cardiovascular, diabetes, nutrition, physical activity, and obesity activities. The Deputy Director will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring budgets, assets, data, and resources achieve DHMH's, Public Health Services, Prevention and Health Promotion Administration (PHPA), and CCDPC's mission and vision through the development and implementation of CCDPC's program goals and objectives. The Deputy Director manages supervisory staff and provides support to the Director and coverage for the Center in the Director's absence.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Qualified candidates must possess a master's degree in public health or similar field of study; possess at least 5 years of public health or population health experience; have at least 3 years experience managing large projects, budgeting experience and leading/supervising staff.  In addition, candidates must have a demonstrated ability to make recommendations for chronic disease priorities at the state level.
