Introduction

The Maryland State Retirement Agency has a permanent position for an Administrator I within the Agency’s Administration Division/ Data Control Unit, located at 120 E. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, Maryland.  The Maryland State Retirement Agency is the administrator of the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System.  The System is a multi-employer, public employees’ defined benefit retirement system composed of twelve (12) separate retirement and pension systems with additional plan components, covering approximately 245,000 active members and more than 147,000 retirees and beneficiaries.

 

Candidates must possess solid computer skills (Microsoft Office products), strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent organization and time management skills, and enjoy working in a fast paced, deadline sensitive environment.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to supervise, manage and control the operations of the Enrollments Section of the Data Control Unit. This position reports directly to the Accountant Manager II responsible for the Enrollments, Employer Reporting Adjustments, and Employer Reporting Maintenance and Collection Sections. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervision and leadership of staff assigned to the Enrollments Section in enrolling new members into the Maryland State Retirement and Pension System, reviewing enrollment and membership reports generated by the MPAS system to correct problem enrollments, processing Title 37 transfers, processing leave of absence requests, assisting in the enrollment of new participating governmental employers, processing transfers of service as provided by legislation, establishing Active Master File records to facilitate the administration of alternate payees, and assisting with processes to ensure the integrity, completeness, and accuracy of data on the Active Master File at fiscal year close.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years of experience in administrative staff or professional work.

Notes:

1. Additional experience in administrative staff or professional work may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university may be substituted at the rate of 30 semester credit hours on a year to year basis for the required general experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policy, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant to a higher ranking commissioned officer on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience applying/interpreting pension laws and/or regulations.

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
