LOCATION OF POSITION
Maryland Department of Agriculture, Plant Protection Program, Annapolis, Maryland
Main Purpose of Job
This is a seasonal position, to assist in the survey and detection activities for Phytophthera ramorum (P ramorum) between May and October 2015.
Contractual Employees are paid for each hour worked, no paid leave benefits.
POSITION DUTIES
Duties will include collection of disease samples in the field, preparation of sample for testing (tear/cut/weigh and grind), operation of laboratory equipment such as pH meter, balance, microscope, electrophoresis, Bunsen burner, centrifuge and autoclave. Will enter data, and handle correspondence and telephone calls.
Work involves exposure to biting/stinging insects, ticks, poison ivy, pesticides, high humidity and temperatures in the field. Employees may be required to wear protective equipment.
Training will be provided on field survey and laboratory work.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Each candidate must be at least 18 years of age and possess a driver's license valid in Maryland with no more than 5 points on driving record.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
College Level Biology courses preferred but not required.
