Green Ridge State Forest- Flintstone, MD (Allegany County)

Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources, Forest Service/Western Region, is currently accepting applications for three (3) Seasonal Contractual Natural Resources Technician positions located at Green Ridge State Forest near Flintstone, Maryland. Work primarily entails forest inventory data collection and analysis. Additional work may include marking State property lines; marking timber sales by prescription; invasive species management; wildland fire suppression; wildlife habitat improvement projects; Geographic Information Systems (GIS) projects; and trail maintenance. The selected candidate should be proficiently skilled with a multitude of technical forestry equipment including GPS, compass, clinometers, 10 BAF prisms, increment borers, as well as be able to accurately read and interpret topographic maps.

Note: The incumbent will work in inclement weather and traverse rugged terrain.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  Completion of thirty (30) credit hours from an accredited college or university, including extensive dendrology or tree identification, herbaceous plant identification.

Experience:  None.

Notes:  Additional experience performing technical biological work in the field of forestry, arboriculture or natural resource management may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
