Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Fisheries Service, is currently accepting applications for one seasonal contractual Natural Resource Technician I at the Piney Point Aquaculture Center (St. Mary's County). The selected candidate will assist with oyster shellfish cultivation and restoration. Applicants must have a working knowledge of shellfish biology and culture and water quality analysis. The incumbent must have the ability to maintain good daily records, computer knowledge, and work under supervision storing and entering daily production information.

Note:

The selected candidate must be able to work a varied schedule of early morning days, weekend rotation and holidays to assist loading oyster seed planting boats, in varied weather conditions, and lift up to 35 pounds consistently.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university, 18 of which are in biology, biochemistry, environmental science, forest technology, arboriculture, aquaculture, natural science, natural resources management, botany, marine biology, marine ecology, physical oceanography, ichthyology, fisheries management, wildlife management, zoology, or a natural resources management related field of study.

Experience: None.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Shellfish hatchery and laboratory experience are preferred.

Operating knowledge of heavy-duty equipment and practical mechanical skills is preferred.
