Main Purpose of Job

The Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Service is currently accepting applications for a Student Technical Assistant at the Appalachian Laboratory office in Frostburg , Maryland. This position is an entry level job and will provide assistance as required to the Statewide Species specialist and the Statewide Brook Trout Biologist performing regional and statewide fisheries management work. Job duties will include, but are not limited to performing electrofishing surveys, collecting water quality data, field surveys of habitat conditions, and statewide assistance on population surveys. Perform other necessary duties as required. Exposure to inclement weather and heavy lifting are frequent.  Must have a valid driver’s license.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:  High school diploma or GED
Experience: Currently enrolled as a college student in biological sciences field

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Valid Driver's License is required.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to work in adverse conditions, hike long distances carrying sampling equipment (up to 50 lbs), and work independently as directed.
