Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Conservation Corps (CJC) is a six-week summer employment program for disadvantaged youth operated by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources. CJC uses outdoor experiential activities and the power of nature to enrich the lives of youth and prepare them for future success in the workforce. The Maryland Park Service is currently recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions for CJC Site Coach for the CJC Program. You must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire the specific location(s) of interest in order to be considered for this recruitment.

The CJC Naturalist/Bus Chaperone positions; for (4) located at Patapsco Valley State Park and four (4) located at Gunpowder Falls State Park will be responsible for the facilitation (with assistance of a CJC Crew Chief) of outdoor recreational activities and the "Bridging the Watershed" enrichment component. This includes all Pre-Activities, Field Studies, Post Activities, canoeing, hiking and swimming. This position will require the distribution and inventory of all materials required for each activity.

In addition, the CJC Naturalist/Bus Chaperone will be required to ride one of the school buses departing at 7:00 a.m. from Baltimore City that transport the CJC Corps Members to their assigned park location and ride back on the bus to their designated bus pick-up location at the end of each day, arriving at 3:00 p.m. The applicant must maintain a professional relationship with CJC Corps Members, maintaining all CJC rules and regulations while on the bus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or equivalent.

Experience: Prior work experience with children and youth.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education or experience in the field of park operations, recreation, education, business, administration, forestry, social sciences, or a natural resources related field is preferred.

Previous work experience with at-risk youth is preferred.

Possession of current certification in CPR for adult/child and First-Aid is preferred.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Applicants must have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Applicant must attend a mandatory training the week of Monday, June 15th to Friday, June 19th.
