Introduction

The Senior Merchandising Coordinator will work as part of the Lottery’s Merchandising Group to optimize the marketing, merchandising and display of Lottery products and point of sale materials in retail locations.  Of particular importance will be assisting the group with the implementation of the Lottery’s Sales Maker Program, a best practices merchandising guide for retailers who elect to participate.  This person will have primary responsibility for ensuring that participating Sale Maker retailers adhere to predetermined product display standards, as well as providing the group with advanced merchandising support and training.

Employee will promote Lottery sales by providing effective merchandising service and support to numerous retailers who sell Lottery products to the public.  Emphasis placed on securing retailers’ ongoing participation with the Lottery’s Sales Maker: Sales Improvement Program best practices and guidelines.  This involves ensuring compliance with Lottery merchandising procedures, delivering point of sale materials and ensuring effective placement and display by the retailers. Considerable travel within the state is required, as this employee must visit a substantial number of retailers each day.  There is no specific or defined territory for this position, as assigned retailers will be located throughout the state of Maryland.

This position receives general supervision from the Lottery’s Merchandising Manager, although the nature of work is such that the employee works with a high degree of independence.  Employee expected to establish good working relationships with retailers and demonstrate effective internal and external communication skills. Must be organized, detail oriented and exhibit good time management skills.

Main Purpose of Job

Responsible for field support of all merchandising programs, primarily Sales Maker.  Duties include, but are not limited to, conducting informational seminars for retailers; pre-site surveys with retailers; and onsite store makeovers to better merchandise Lottery products.  Assists Regional Managers, Corporate Account Managers where needed in improving Lottery merchandising at any retail location state wide to increase that retailer's sales and revenue contribution.

POSITION DUTIES

Travels throughout the state to ensure retailers are complying with merchandising procedures and promoting Lottery sales activities; recruits new Lottery retail locations for current and future merchandising initiatives; delivers and installs point of sale materials to retailers; advises retailers on the effective placement and display of point of sale materials.  May give public talks or presentations and will be required to work with Lottery District Sales Managers and Corporate Account Managers regularly.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.

Experience: Three years experience in administrative or professional work.

Notes:

1. Candidates may substitute additional experience in administrative staff or professional work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

 2. Candidates may substitute additional graduate level education at an accredited college or university at the rate of 30 semester credit hours for each year of the required experience.

3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer involving staff work that included the regular independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting complex administrative plans, policies, rules or regulations or analysis of operational programs or procedures with recommendations for improvement on a year to year basis for the required education and experience.  

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Selective Qualifications:
1.) One year retail merchandising and/or sales representative experience for a regional or national retailer or distributor responsible for product display.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preferred Qualifications:
1.) Good verbal and written communication skills.
2.) Ability to perform lifting, installing of Lottery signs, climbing ladders and use of tools.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

You must report all experience and education that is related to this position.  Approved candidates will be rated as Best Qualified, Better Qualified and Qualified and remain on the eligible list for at least one year.
