POSITION DUTIES

This is professional social work of an administrative nature in the Department of Human Resources. In local departments of social services, this employee will administer large and complex social service components or administer the operations of a decentralized center of the Baltimore City Department of Social Services. At the Social Services Administration, this employee will direct a section responsible for policy development or field operations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

CANDIDATES MUST POSSESS:

EDUCATION: A MASTER’S DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK (MSW) from a college or university approved by the Council on Social Work Education. (a master’s degree with the specific major  of “Social Work” is the only qualifying degree for this classification. There are no substitutions. Please clearly indicate your MSW on your application.)

AND

EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years of professional experience in a social work capacity in a public or private agency or institution.

Four (4) years of the above experience must have been in an administrative, supervisory, or consultative capacity.

NOTES:

1.) These requirements are established by the Social Service Administration by authority provided in Human Services §4-204 of the Annotated Code of Maryland and the Department of Budget and Management, Office of Personnel Services and Benefits and the Department of Human Resources' Examination Services Unit do not have authority to accept substitutions or equivalents.

2.) Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Social Work classifications or Social Work specialty codes in the Social Science, Psychology, and Welfare field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. LICENSURE: Candidates filling positions in this classification must be licensed by the Board of Social Work Examiners. (Please upload a copy of your license with your application or email it to the address below.)

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle.  Employees assigned such duties are required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.

SELECTION PROCESS

Successful candidates will all be placed in one all-inclusive Best Qualified band and will appear on the employment (eligible) list for one year.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

You must possess the minimum qualifications to be considered for this position.

If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the assessment, you may participate in the application process.

Permanent Maryland State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of the assessment. However, such candidates will appear in pending status on the eligible list until documentation has been received that the educational and/or experience requirements have been met.

Credit may be given for relevant part-time, temporary, or volunteer experience, if you list the number of hours worked per week.

For education obtained outside the U.S., you will be required to provide proof of the equivalent American education as determined by a foreign credential evaluation service. PLEASE INCLUDE ANY FOREIGN SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY EVALUATIONS WITH YOUR APPLICATION.
