LOCATION OF POSITION

This position is located within the Annapolis Public Buildings & Grounds Division of the MD Department of General Services at 29 St. Johns Street, Annapolis, Maryland.

Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide plumbing services and supervise the work in all building maintenance trades, for the Annapolis State Office Complex.

Employees in this position are considered Emergency Essential personnel and must report to work during emergencies and inclement weather or as directed by the supervisor.

POSITION DUTIES

Duties for this position include but are not limited to:

- Perform all plumbing tasks and operations of the domestic hot and cold water supply, sewage systems, sprinkler irrigation systems and it's controls;

- Repair, replace and install valves, toilets, urinals and drains;

- Assign, review and approve the work of skilled and/or semi-skilled building maintenance workers;

- Prepare specifications for renovation projects;

- Collaborate with outside contractors during repair and installation projects;

- Aid tenants and staff of various buildings when building maintenance issues arise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of eighth grade.

Experience: Five years experience in the building maintenance or building construction trades including four years of responsibility for assigning, reviewing and approving the work of other building maintenance or building construction workers.

Note: Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher, as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance management specialty codes in utility systems repair, on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

SELECTIVE QUALIFICATIONS

Three years of the above required experience must have involved plumbing tasks.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with experience writing specifications according to code for renovation projects.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

This recruitment is limited to candidates willing to accept employment in Anne Arundel County, Maryland.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

1. Candidates for positions in the licensed option must possess and maintain a current Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer License from the Board of Examining Engineers and must list the license number and date on the application.

2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your education, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.  Successful candidates will be placed on the employment eligibility list categorized as BEST QUALIFIED, BETTER QUALIFIED, or QUALIFIED.  The eligibility list will be valid for one year and may be extended.  The list will be used by the hiring agency to select employees.

Eligible list may be used to fill future vacancies of the same classification.

You MUST possess the minimum qualifications before you may be selected for a State job – Verification will be completed by the appointing authority.  If you are scheduled to complete an educational or licensing requirement within six months of the examination, you may participate in the examination process.  Permanent State employees may also complete necessary experience requirements within six months of the date of an examination.  Credit is given for relevant part-time, temporary or volunteer experience based on the number of hours worked per week.  You must include on your application the time spent on such activity.  You must be legally authorized under the United States Immigration Reform and Control Act to be hired in the position for which you apply.
