Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to plan, organize, coordinate and direct programs relating to voter registration and elections for Baltimore City; to hire, train election judges to staff polling places; to implement and train new office staff on new and current office procedures; to support the Election Director and Deputy Director assisting them in conducting a smooth election and an efficient work atmosphere. In addition this employee will also register qualified voters, maintain statistical records and correspondences, handle maps for various districts and precinct and wards and answer correspondence from other agencies and the public.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of State election laws, Maryland State primary and general election procedures for federal, State and municipal elections.

Skill in word processing, personal computers and other office automation such as microsoft Office Suite, equiptment and applicable software.

Experience working with the general public.

Experience working in an Election office.

LIMITATIONS ON SELECTION

Employees in this classification are required to be registered voters in the State of Maryland in accordance with the Election Law Article, Section 2-207(d).

Employees in this classification may not hold or be a candidate for any elective public or political party office or any other office created under the Constitution or laws of this State in accordance with the Election Law Article, Section 2-301(b).

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
