Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Historical Trust (MHT) is the State's historic preservation office located within the Maryland Department of Planning.  MHT is currently seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual for our Cultural Resource Information Manager within the Office of Research, Survey and Registration.

This position will set the direction for and oversee the development of all aspects of the agency’s information and records management programs.  The position provides supervision of the development and management of all digital systems and work flows to efficiently capture electronic submittals, convert, manage and store records, and provide mechanisms for easy retrieval of information.  Specific subsystems managed include GIS mapping, database of inventoried historic properties (Medusa), other associated library databases, and scanned and digital records including photographs, reports, and inventory forms.  This position also serves as the IT liaison for the Trust, providing policy oversight and technical guidance on information technology priorities and coordination of information systems throughout MHT.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education:  Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, or closely related field.

Experience: Five years professional experience in cultural resource information management, two years of which must include experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), knowledge of and experience with database design, querying, reporting, and maintenance, and experience with document management.  Experience as defined must have been full-time, or its equivalent, in order to be considered as qualifying.  

Notes: Additional experience in professional work as outlined above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to two years for the required education.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to candidates with supervisory and project management experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.
