Introduction

This position serves a critical support function for the effective operation of the Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (DLLR) Police Force. The Force is comprised of 22 members, including 11 sworn police officers and 11 building guards. The major function of the Police Force is to protect the lives and property of 950 State employees located at 1100 North Eutaw Street in Baltimore. It works on a 24 hour basis covering a four to six block radius. In addition, more than 100,000 visitors enter the 1100 N. Eutaw Street building per year, including ex-offenders seeking services from the Correctional Education Unit and unemployed individuals seeking assistance from the Workforce Development Center. The Police Force also provides protection and security advice to 6 other State owned buildings located throughout the State, as well as protection to those locations where Appeals hearings are conducted. This position is an integral part of the DLLR Police Force daily operation and provides administrative services to the entire staff.  

This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible will be used to staff this position or function only. This list will be maintained for one year. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment for this job classification.

LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The position assists in the preparation of training for all members of the DLLR Police Force (Major, Captain, Sergeants, Police, and Building Guards) on an annual basis. The position is responsible for the development and maintenance of all confidential files related to each officer. The position is responsible for the employee and visitor card-access security system installed at 1100 N. Eutaw Street. This position obtains necessary training for program changes and training Police and Building Guards on system changes, and ensuring each incident report, memo, or reprimand is factual, accurate, grammatically correct, and complete before being submitted. The position ensures the timely return of all contracts and important matters to maintain department compliance with proper business practices.

This position relates to the agency's  mission in that it provides consistent and dependable support for DLLR employees, who, through their efforts, provide economic stability to the citizens of Maryland.

POSITION DUTIES

To assist the Major, Captain, Sergeants, Police, and Building Guards in the daily operation of the Police Force.;

Acts as Personnel Liaison with DLLR Human Resources Unit;

The lead administrator for the 1100 N. Eutaw Street Camera Security System and Employee/Guest Pass System;. 

Assists the instructor (Sergeant) to ensure accurate training for the DLLR Police Force;

Provides assistance to the DLLR Telecommunications Manager;

Provides assistance in developing office procedures and polilcy statements, and purchases authorized materials and office supplies.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Four years performing secretarial work or clerical work involving typing duties.

Notes:

1. Additional secretarial or clerical experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required education.

2. Thirty credit hours with a major in secretarial science or office technology from an accredited college may be substituted at the rate of thirty credits for one year of experience for up to two years of the required experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to accurately type on a typewriter or keyboard on a personal computer, computer terminal or word processor at a minimum of forty words per minute may be required, depending on the specific requirements of the position.

Candidates are subject to security clearance before the interview, and their work records will be reviewed by the hiring division.

BARGAINING UNIT STATUS

The incumbent in this position is a member of a covered bargaining unit and will be required to pay a bi-weekly service fee to the exclusive representative of the bargaining unit.

A copy of your proof of eligibility (DD 214) for Veterans’ Credit must be in this office and completely verified before Veterans’ Credit will be approved.  Permanent State employees do not need to submit proof of eligibility for Veterans’ Credit.
