Main Purpose of Job

This is a contractual position responsible for coordinating and designing strategic plans for marketing nutrition programs and activities, identifying audiences who will benefit from increased awareness of nutrition programs, and consulting with various stake holders to assess the impact of nutrition programs on health and student achievement.

POSITION DUTIES

Develops and implements a State nutrition marketing plan and budget; evaluates marketing program effectiveness and determines needs in order to further develop and implement a comprehensive, coordinated strategic plan for marketing activities of the School and Community Nutrition Programs Branch (SCNPB); creates a social marketing strategy in cooperation with the SCNPB; reviews and evaluates the SCNPB website for user friendliness, up-to-date information and determining new content to be added; measures the impact of social media on marketing efforts; serves as a liaison between SCNPB and the Office of Academic Policy to establish a relationship that promotes Nutrition Programs and satisfies Agency public relations objectives; serves as liaison between MSDE, other agencies, and the public for communicating SCNPB objectives; assists in developing legislative responses and background documents for policy makers and child nutrition advocates; manages inquiries from media, legislators and the public; provides training, technical assistance and marketing activities to SCNPB staff and other groups; organizes and represents MSDE at nutrition program events.

MINIMUM EDUCATION OR GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:  A Master’s Degree or equivalent 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work in Business/Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Advertising, Education, Public Health, Dietetics, Food Service Administration, Nutrition or a related area. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of professional experience with marketing, advertising and/or promoting products, services and programs. Experience that includes promotion of programs specific to nutrition and or health is desirable. Experience promoting programs for nonprofit organizations, public programs, government, or advocacy groups will be considered. NOTE:   Two years of additional experience as defined above may be substituted for the Master’s degree.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of marketing principles; knowledge of methods used for developing; implementing and monitoring of marketing plans; knowledge of programs that impact health and nutrition and the relationship to student achievement; skill organizing, developing, and conducting marketing presentations and creating displays; skill in developing and interpreting policies and procedures; skill utilizing various forms of media (printed, automated and web-based) to communicate information; ability to establish and maintain effecting working relationships with a broad base of partners and stakeholders; ability to assess programs, identify problems, and determine improvements/solutions; ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; ability to work as a team member.
