Main Purpose of Job
The mission of the Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Prevention and Health Promotion Administration is to protect, promote and improve the health and well-being of all Marylanders and their families through provision of public health efforts in partnership with local health departments, providers, community based organizations, and public and private sector agencies, giving special attention to at-risk and vulnerable populations. This position serves as the Regional DIS Supervisor in the Center for STI Prevention within the Infectious Disease Prevention and Health Services Bureau. The mission of the Center for Sexually Transmitted Infection Prevention (CSTIP) is to prevent and reduce sexually transmitted infections in Maryland. Preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and their complications is essential for improving both sexual and reproductive health. The main purpose of this position is to provide direct supervision of two regional Disease Intervention Specialist (DIS) working at the Charles County and Wicomico County Health Departments (covering five low morbidity counties), and to lead the work of four DISs working in the Anne Arundel County and Howard County Health Departments. This position provides technical supervision, support and training to these five State and local health department staff to ensure proper implementation of direct services and support to these local health departments.
Education: Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in nursing, social work, psychology, education, counseling or a related field.
Experience: Five years of professional experience in health services, two years of which must have been professional clinical or administrative work in health or medical services in areas other than Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities or Addictions.
1. Applicants may substitute a master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a health or human service field for one year of the required general experience.
2. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in another field plus one additional year of professional experience in health services may be substituted for the specific degree.
3. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Administration classifications or Civil Affairs Specialist specialty codes in the health related field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
Candidates must possess a minimum of two years STI/HIV disease intervention field experience.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The preferred candidates should have experience with Patient Reporting Investigating Surveillance Manager (PRISM) data system.
