IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
- Associates degree or higher in Social or Behavioral Science
- 2 years of experience working in a residential child care facility that houses at-risk youth ages 10-17 years old
- 2 years of experience working with at-risk youth
- Possess any certification closely related to the field
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours including various 12-hour shifts (nights, weekends, and holidays)
- Possession of a valid Driver License
An Associate's degree; and
One year of experience working with youths as a counselor, recreational leader, or instructor or as a care provider to emotional, mentally or physically disabled youths; and
Possession of a valid Driver's License.
SPECIAL NOTE: (Limited Duration) The position to be filled is limited duration for twelve (12) months. The person hired receives all rights and benefits of the classified service except the right of tenure.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; Occasionally sitting at a desk or table. Frequently standing and/or walking outside around 30-acre campus; Ability to provide physical intervention as prescribed by approved trauma informed practice model (NAPPI)
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Constantly requires incumbent to remain on premises during breaks and/or meal periods; Frequently requires transporting children in County vans.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
- Knowledge of First Aid, CPR and Universal Precautions.
- Knowledge of the functions, services, procedures and regulations of the unit or department to which assigned.
- Knowledge and proficiency in the implementation of NAPPI crisis intervention (ie. crisis counseling, physical restraint techniques, and environmental safety observations).
- Knowledge of available social support agencies and resources in the community.
- Knowledge of the juvenile justice and child welfare systems.
- Knowledge of the principles and terminology of child and adolescent developmental stages and intervention techniques.
- Skill in the application of consequences and positive reinforcement.
- Ability and willingness to work with youth with emotional, mental or physical disabilities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to physically restrain youth weighing up to 107 pounds when required.
- Ability to detect potential dangers to youth or staff and take proactive and appropriate action, and follow established reporting procedures and protocol.
- Ability to participate in physical/outdoor activities that may require bending, stooping, and lifting.
- Ability to follow established procedures and support alignment with the department's goals and vision.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to handle confidential information in accordance with established Federal, State and local laws and ordinances.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to maintain work related records and prepare reports.
- Ability to use a computer and related software.

- Monitors the behavior and participates with youth during all assigned program activities.
- Applies interventions based on prescribed treatment plans and provides life skills, social, emotional, and educational skill-based services training.
- Ensures a safe and healthy environment at program facilities by monitoring the status of clients and by recommending, implementing, and/or monitoring corrective actions as needed.
- Completes reports such as runaway, incident, abuse, daily charts, token points, or logs.
- Facilitates comprehensive intakes, screenings, and assessments of youth entering the program.
- Conducts timely, accurate and complete eligibility determination for program applicants. Ensure 100% eligibility verification of all program applicants prior to registration/enrollment.
- Conducts orientations on program eligibility requirements and services.
- Ensures timely, accurate and complete data input for enrollments.
- Communicates eligibility criteria, including packet/application submission.
- Documents all participant contacts and activities in case notes and ensure that contacts are made as required.
- Maintains all required trainings and certifications mandated by federal, state, and county governments and contracts.
- CPR/AED, First Aid, NAPPI, HIPAA, and NIMS certifications must be obtained within the first 90 days of employment.
- Performs general safety inspections of buildings and grounds, general cleaning and maintenance of buildings, and submits maintenance work orders as needed.
- Transports clients using assigned county vehicle as required.
- Recruits applicants through proven recruitment and outreach strategies such as social service organizations, community events, schools and other potential referral sources.
- Performs other related duties as required.

- Vision Care: Employees and their dependents are eligible to enroll in the vision coverage. Co-payment coverage includes exams, lens and frame, as well as an allowable contact lens expense. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
- Employee Assistance Program: This program provides all employees and family members with professional, confidential counseling sessions. All employees and dependents are afforded up to six (6) free visits per Plan year. Coverage begins on the first day of employment.
- Tuition Reimbursement: Employees may be reimbursed up to $1,000 (undergraduate), $2000 (graduate) per fiscal year for classes at an accredited college or university for courses that enhance your ability to perform your current job duties.
- Holidays: Employees receive up to 12 paid holidays per year.
