IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE

  • Three to five years of project management principles and techniques for project milestones, critical path, infrastructure cost and schedule information.
  • Experience in design, implementation as well as troubleshooting and  repairing various components of structured cabling systems, including fiber optic and  Ethernet cabling for local area networks, telecommunications equipment, telephone key  systems, VOIP systems
  •  Experience establishing technical specifications for the installation of low voltage cabling systems, including unshielded twisted pair,  coaxial and fiber optic
  • Ability to work in a high-pressure environment, while maintaining professionalism and providing    superior customer service 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology or related engineering field; and
Three years of experience in engineering, installation, setup, upgrades, and advanced troubleshooting for complex enterprise telecommunications systems, hardware, structured cabling, and peripheral equipment.

Any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job related competencies noted.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of industry standards, characteristics, and features associated with telecommunications systems, structured cabling (including out and inside plant), pathways, hardware, and network connectivity.
  • Knowledge of referencing organizational standards including but not limited to Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA), Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), National Electric Code (NEC), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), OSHA, HIPAA Security Standards, FCC, and ISO Security Standards. 
  • Knowledge of building construction activities, such as the installation of structured cabling systems, electrical rough-in, ceiling grid, and drywall completion, generally starting at the 50% completion point through final acceptance.
  • Knowledge of project management principles and techniques for project milestones, critical path, and infrastructure cost and schedule information. 
  • Knowledge and use of specialized test equipment and tools to diagnose, troubleshoot, design, plan, and repair structured cabling (including outside and inside plant) and pathways.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage projects, tasks, and time to meet delivery dates. 
  • Ability to develop, review, edit, and present technical project documentation, architecture design documents, building plans, floor plans, as well as other technical reports/documentation.
  • Ability to use specialized telecommunication diagnostic and troubleshooting tools, including fiber optic and network analyzer test equipment and grounding test equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues associated with fiber optic and copper structure cabling and network connectivity.
  • Ability to work effectively with multiple vendors, contractors, project managers, and clients.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

  • Performs engineering, installation, setup, configuration, upgrades, advanced troubleshooting for complex enterprise telecommunications systems, hardware, structure cabling, and peripheral equipment.
  • Manages complex enterprise technology projects related to structured cabling, equipment design, and architecture of telecommunication rooms, buildings, and pathways in accordance with established project management methodology.
  • Engineers solutions using established technology standards to develop solutions for telecommunications systems, structured cabling (including outside and inside plant), pathways, hardware, and network connectivity.
  • Provides Tier-2 technical support for escalated complex issues in supporting multiple infrastructure platforms related to enterprise telecommunications systems, structured cabling, pathways, hardware, and network connectivity.
  • Performs remedial troubleshooting, preventative/remedial maintenance, installation, configuration, and upgrades, for enterprise telecommunications systems, structured cabling (including outside and inside plant), pathways, hardware, and network connectivity.
  • Performs project management duties on complex technology projects in accordance with established project management methodology.
  • Act as team technical liaison for externally managed technology projects originating from the enterprise project management office as well as other departments. 
  • Provides project management mentoring for network administrators.
  • Works with vendors, clients, and other technical staff to resolve technical issues related to vendor specific supported infrastructure.
  • Develops, edits, and presents, technical designs, network diagrams, project plans, and other technical reports. 
  • Performs other related duties as required.

  • Health Plan: The County pays towards health insurance premiums for all employees. Employees can select from three health care plan options. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 60 days of employment.
  • Dental Insurance: Employees are eligible to enroll in the dental coverage and choose from four options: High DMO, Low DMO, a network Open Access Plan, and a PPO. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
  • Vision Care: Employees and their dependents are eligible to enroll in the vision coverage. Co-payment coverage includes exams, lens and frame, as well as an allowable contact lens expense. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
  • Employee Assistance Program: This program provides all employees and family members with professional, confidential counseling sessions. All employees and dependents are afforded up to six (6) free visits per Plan year. Coverage begins on the first day of employment.
  • Tuition Reimbursement: Employees may be reimbursed up to $1,000 (undergraduate), $2000 (graduate) per fiscal year for classes at an accredited college or university for courses that enhance your ability to perform your current job duties.
  • Holidays: Employees receive up to 12 paid holidays per year.
