Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate; and possession of Standard Inspector License issued under Chapter 468 of the Florida Statutes;
(Employees hired based on qualifications listed below must obtain a Standard Inspector license in the applicable trade within 12 months of hire or prior to the expiration of the provisional license not to exceed 24 months from date of hire)
OR Graduation from high school or possession of a GED certificate and successful completion of a State of Florida Building Code Administrator and Inspector Board (BCAIB) approved vocational training program in a related construction field; and must obtain within six months of hire a provisional license as a Standard Inspector in the applicable trade
OR 5 years of experience in applicable construction trade or related field inspection or plans review, and must obtain within six months of hire a provisional license as a Standard Inspector in the applicable trade
OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; and must obtain within six months of hire a provisional license as a Standard Inspector in the applicable trade
AND Possession of a valid Driver License

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Majority of the work will be outdoors traveling from job site to job site in county vehicle and using mobile communication devices.
The employee is regularly required to walk, stand, frequently required to use repetitive hand motion, feel, pull, push, reach, crawl, stoop, knee, crouch, climb and bend. Requires the abilty to lift up to 50 pounds.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
- Working knowledge of State and local codes and laws governing building construction or mechanical, electrical, gas or plumbing system construction and installation.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical construction and maintenance
- Working knowledge of inspection methods and procedures, and Working knowledge of OSHA construction site safety requirements
- Knowledge of the materials and methods used in general building construction
- Knowledge of the applicable building trade and of stages of construction when possible defects and violations may most easily be observed and corrected.
- Some knowledge of applicable County and office policies and procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret plans diagrams, blueprints, and specifications.
- Ability to prepare reports and maintain records.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide; interpret graphs; calculate decimals and percentages; utilize algebraic and geometric principles.
- Ability to use a computer and related software.
- Ability to understand established building codes in the applicable trade
- Ability to recognize faulty construction or hazardous conditions
- Ability to read and interpret building construction plans and specifications
- Ability to enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, contractors, engineers and the general public

- Inspects new and existing buildings for structural, plumbing, electrical, and/or mechanical compliance with codes
- Performs inspections of constructions, installations and repairs, and issues notices of code violations applicable to the trade in accordance with the Florida Building Codes and Hillsborough County Construction Ordinance.
- Reviews plans and specifications for proposed construction of buildings and building improvements
- Inspects all work upon completion and signs permit giving final approval.
- Makes routine and periodic inspections of assigned area to check for violations and hazardous conditions
- Testifies before the Board of Adjustment and Appeals or in a court of law when subpoenaed.
- Answers questions from the public pertaining to building issues
- Prepares work sheets and daily activity reports
- Prepares and submits reports of buildings in violation of building, plumbing, mechanical or electrical codes.

- Vision Care: Employees and their dependents are eligible to enroll in the vision coverage. Co-payment coverage includes exams, lens and frame, as well as an allowable contact lens expense. Coverage is effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
- Employee Assistance Program: This program provides all employees and family members with professional, confidential counseling sessions. All employees and dependents are afforded up to six (6) free visits per Plan year. Coverage begins on the first day of employment.
- Tuition Reimbursement: Employees may be reimbursed up to $1,000 (undergraduate), $2000 (graduate) per fiscal year for classes at an accredited college or university for courses that enhance your ability to perform your current job duties.
- Holidays: Employees receive up to 12 paid holidays per year.
