Summary Statement

The mission of the Delaware State Parks YCC is to engage youth in important conservation and park projects while providing learning that fosters teamwork, self-esteem, social responsibility and respect for the environment.

YCC Core components include:

 

·       Practical job work experience

·       Environmental education and experiences

·       Job and/or college preparation.

These three positions, one in New Castle County, one in Kent County and one in Sussex County, are Summer Youth Employment positions for young people aged 20-26 years of age with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Division of Parks and Recreation.  Positions will lead a team of YCC members age 16-21, conducting conservation, trail, and park-based projects throughout state parks within the team’s region. Team Leaders will coordinate activities with YCC Program Manager and work alongside professional park staff.  All positions are casual/seasonal positions working 29.75 hours per week May 29, 2017 – August 18, 2017.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Provide daily coordination and on-site leadership and guidance to team of 5 YCC members aged 16-21 years old.
  • Coordinate work and educational activities.
  • Completes necessary reports and administrative forms.
  • Transport team to work locations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:

  1. Must be 20-26 years of age.
  2. Six months experience working with children and young adults such as academic/athletic tutoring, camp counselor, youth volunteer, classroom assistant or education teacher.  
  3. Knowledge of natural, cultural, historical resources or parks and recreation.
  4. Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Additional Posting Information

Work shirts, protective equipment and tools will be provided.

Conditions of Hire
