Summary Statement

The Seasonal Wildlife Conservation Aid is responsible for operating land management equipment and boats; performing habitat management activities and installing wildlife food and cover plots; performing herbicide applications; placing and maintaining waterfowl blinds, deer stands, information signs and wildlife nesting structures; maintenance of ponds and water control structures and managing public use facilities such as boat ramps, wildlife viewing trails and structures, and the Michael Castle Trail. Other duties include:  assisting staff biologists with biological data collection at deer stations. 

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all position in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.  Since class specifications are descriptive and not restrictive, incumbents can complete job duties of similar kind not specifically listed here.

  • Performs activities such as propagating, seeding, transplanting, cultivating, harvesting and care of trees, flowers, shrubs, lawns and crops to include turf/grounds management, pest management, herbicide/fertilizer application, layout and design, assessment of soil composition and environmental conditions.
  • Operates, marine, land-based and construction equipment and vehicles.
  • Ensures the safe usage of state owned, managed, and/or maintained grounds and facilities by the public. Maintains records and reports detailing daily activity, tool and equipment inventory, fuel and service logs and related activities.
  • Must be able to demonstrate responsibility, dependability and good communication skills.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas.

  1. Must be 18 years old
  2. Knowledge of operating landscaping and groundskeeping equipment and hand tools.
  3. Knowledge of performing a variety of groundskeeping.
  4. Knowledge of habitat management work.
  5. Possession of a valid Driver's License (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving).

Selection Process
