Summary Statement

The incumbent in this position will supervise the switchboard/telephone operations, universal paging, mailroom and reception areas.  Responsibilities include: maintaining logs and reference directories, ensuring mail is processed efficiently according to postal regulations and preparing statistical reports.

Essential Functions

  • Answers calls and makes necessary switchboard connections.
  • Operates paging systems in order to connect internal calls and places external calls that require assistance.
  • Operates fireboard according to internal procedures in order to notify proper parties of an emergency.
  • Maintains a reference directory.
  • Keeps records such as logging calls, incident logs, daily/weekly census sheet/roster.
  • Performs related duties such as greet and direct visitors and distribute mail.

Job Requirements

JOB REQUIREMENTS for Telephone Operator Supervisor
Applicants must have education, training and/or experience demonstrating competence in each of the following areas:
  1. Six months experience in telephone systems operations.
  2. Six months experience in customer service such as providing prompt, accurate, and courteous service to customers seeking information, answering requests as quickly as possible, ensuring customers are satisfied with service, and responding to complaints.
  3. Six months experience in record keeping.
  4. Knowledge of staff supervision acquired through course work, academic training, training provided through an employer, or performing as a lead worker overseeing the work of others; OR supervising staff which may include planning, assigning, reviewing, and evaluating the work of others; OR supervising through subordinate supervisors a group of professional, technical, and clerical employees.

Conditions of Hire

Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire.  The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

Pre-employment Drug Testing:  Upon a conditional offer, you must undergo pre-employment drug testing as part of the hiring process.

Union:  As a condition of accepting employment, the person selected for this position shall join and pay dues to the labor organization or may, instead not join but pay a service fee no greater than the dues.  The labor organization has been elected by employees as their representative for collective bargaining and other work related purposes.

 Upon a conditional offer, the applicant must undergo a pre-employment base line two step tuberculin skin test (TST) as part of the hiring process.
