Summary Statement

The mission of the Delaware State Parks Conservation Corps is to engage youth in important conservation and park projects while providing learning that fosters teamwork, self-esteem, social responsibility and respect for the environment.

DSPCC Core components include:

 

·       Practical job work experience

·       Environmental education and experiences

·       Job and/or college preparation.

 

Multiple positions are available statewide.  Summer youth employment positions for young people aged 16 – 21 years of age with the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, Division of Parks and Recreation.  All positions are seasonal positions working 28 hours per week June 19 – August 11, 2017.

 

Consideration will also be given to students who are unable to adhere to these dates as a result of snow days and school schedule in June.

 

Focused on park projects, members work in a specific park conducting work under the supervision of the park professional staff. Work will be in either Visitor Services or Grounds/Maintenance positions focused on providing services to help ensure safe, accessible opportunities for visitors. Visitor Services Job assignments include customer service work in park offices, retail outlets, boat houses, fee booths, campgrounds or other park service areas.
Grounds/Maintenance positions may include physical work assisting on grounds, maintenance, or other park specific tasks.

Essential Functions

Essential functions are fundamental, core functions common to all positions in the class series and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all job duties for any one position in the class.   • Assists with providing services in Parks.
  • Members selected to work in Visitor Service areas may work in park boathouses, campgrounds, offices, retail outlets, fee booths, or other park service areas.
  • Visitor Service member duties may include: 
    - Providing customer service
    - Conducting transactions and handling of cash 
    - Use of business and office machines 
    - Providing instruction to visitors 
    - Lifting, bending, carrying
  • Members selected for Grounds/ Environmental Stewardship may work on park environmental stewardship teams, trails, or grounds and facility maintenance crews.
  • Grounds/Environmental Stewardship member duties may include: 
    - Assists with native and invasive plant survey and identification. 
    - Trail Maintenance and possible trail reconstruction/constructions projects. 
    - Litter cleanup. 
    - Assists with grounds work throughout the park, including planting, mowing, weeding. 
    - Facility maintenance and cleaning. 
    - Historic building maintenance/ preservation. 
    - Special events set up, logistics, station assistance, and tear down. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
